Bushnell now lists the Tour V4 Shift as discontinued, so the units on sale are retailer or second-hand stock. The Tour V4 Shift is a Tour V4 with slope that you switch on and off by hand. You slide the logo on the body: "Slope Edition" showing means slope readings, logo down means a tournament-conforming unit. The standard Tour V4 has no slope. The Tour V4 Slope selects slope in the unit menu. Optics and ranging specs are the same across all three. See also our golf rangefinder guide.

Slope and tournament use

Slope uses a built-in inclinometer. Bushnell says the Shift shows the slope angle and an angle-compensated distance, which tells you to play the shot longer for an uphill target and shorter for a downhill one. In the manual's own example, a 162-yard shot with a 4 degree angle is compensated to 173 yards.

Slope is the feature to check before competition play, because under the Rules of Golf (Rule 4.3) using a slope-measuring function is not allowed unless a Local Rule permits it. On the Shift you slide the logo down and the unit is conforming again, as the manual puts it. Bushnell's Tour V4 Shift page describes the unit as USGA conforming with slope disabled. The Tour V4 Slope does not have a physical switch. You pick a non-slope setting in the unit cycle. Check your event's local rules before you play.

Which to buy

  • Buy the Shift if you want slope and also play competitions. The switch is the whole point: one unit, slope on for practice rounds, off for events.
  • Buy the plain Tour V4 if you never want slope. You get the same optics and PinSeeker with JOLT without the slope feature.
  • The Tour V4 Slope is the menu-based version. You have to cycle through units to turn slope on or off.

Stock is limited, so check the seller's return policy. "Patriot Pack" editions are retailer bundles, and we could not confirm from Bushnell's pages what each contains, so check the listing for the words "Shift" or "Slope" before you buy.
