The TaylorMade TP5 golf ball is a premium golf ball that has evolved over the past few years. This new ball has been welcomed by many on tour and is a fan favorite among amateur golfers. This golf ball was engineered with 5 layers.
Similar to the 2017 TP5 golf ball, the 2019 version combines the 2nd and 3rd layer of the core, to create a “Tri-Fast Core” – which controls the golf ball’s flight by increasing launch and decreasing drag.
To boil that down, this golf ball is designed to launch high and reduce the drag on the ball when flying through the air.
In the past Taylormade noticed that their golf balls were not the most durable. Rather than ignoring this issue, they spent time improving the paint that was used on the ball to help improve the ball’s durability.
While the ball is more durable than the previous model – the new “Soft Tough” cover does not sacrifice spin or feel around the greens or off iron shots.
If you are looking for a high quality, premium golf ball – that isn’t created by Titleist, give the TP5 a shot!
The TaylorMade TP5 golf ball feels great off of every club. With a compression of 85 (slightly firmer than the previous 2017 model – at 83), this golf ball is easy to compress and is very workable in the air.
When hitting pitch shots, I could feel the grooves grabbing the ball and it gave me confidence to spin the ball more.
Off the driver and long irons the TP5 will help get your ball to get the ball in the air quickly. Designed to launch higher than it’s brother – the TP5x, this ball will help give you more distance off of the tee and less spin off of the driver and long irons.
TaylorMade is claiming that these balls are going to produce more distance on all clubs and higher ball speed when compared to similar balls on the market.
Around the greens the TP5 was extremely consistant and felt great. When compared to the TP5x, the TP5 does not spin as much. This is not always a bad thing. The most important thing to remember with chipping is consistency.
While the TP5x may spin more, if you play better with the TP5 across most clubs – you can learn what the TP5 feels like around the greens and adding more spin could hurt your overall feel.
With that said, when we were testing these golf balls – we never had any issues getting the ball to spin backwards or to stop on a dime. While it may have been easier to spin the TP5x, the TP5 felt more consistent to me overall.
Putting with the TP5 felt great. The soft feel really translates well into putting and gives you a consistent feel with every putt. The golf balls’s logo and lines were non-intrusive.
If you are looking for a higher spinning ball, you will want to play the TP5x. If you want a less spin and a more penetrating ball flight the TP5 is for you.
A lot of golfers ask if “X” ball is good for their handicap set, we received similar questions about the TP5 lines. The answer is that it depends on what you are looking for in a ball.
The compression of the TaylorMade TP5 is 85.
The TaylorMade TP5x is a higher spinning golf ball than the TP5.
TaylorMade claims that the TP5 and TP5x are the most played golf ball on tour – currently, this is true.
The TP5 is a fantastic golf ball that many players will enjoy using. Here at Bestgolfaccessories.net – we always recommend testing multiple golf balls before settling on one.
The TP5 is worth the test!
